Here's everything you need to know about the Ruined King's build.
Viego is the newest LoL champion on Summoner's Rift. After an incredible reveal, he burst into the game as a strong pick across multiple roles. With the ability to possess other champions' bodies and use their abilities, he has a really unique kit. Overall, he's definitely a fun addition to the game. It's not always easy to know where to start with a new champion, so we've got the lock on optimal runes and items you should build when you hop in!
Viego runes
The standard and most effective rune setup for Viego uses the Precision tree with Conqueror, then Domination for the secondary tree. Viego's sustained damage can be incredible in drawn-out fights. This setup gives him everything he wants, extra attack speed, damage and healing. The Domination healing runes make his in-kit sustain even better. As you may or may not know, Viego heals from both his passive and Blade of the Ruined King (Q) ability. Adding all of the bonus healing from runes on top of this makes him very potent. These runes work well both in lane and in the jungle.
However, if you're playing Viego in lane in a particularly difficult matchup, you can adjust these slightly. You can replace the Domination secondary tree for Resolve. If you do, bring either Bone Plating or Second Wind, as well as Revitalize. Even though you have good healing, these minor adjustments can help you deal with relentless poke or strong, aggressive early all-in champions.
Item build
The main crux of Viego's item build is, of course, the Blade of the Ruined King. It gives him everything he wants, like healing, attack speed and pure damage. Along with this, Kraken Slayer is the main Mythic item, as it gives him more potency in long fights. Although, some players may choose to go Stridebreaker for extra tankiness and utility, or Immortal Shieldbow when the extra healing and shield is needed. Most players choose to rush BORK first, then decide on their Mythic afterward.
After these damage options, defensive options are great. Sterak's Gage is fantastic, giving him much-needed survivability. Guardian Angel and Death's Dance also provide more ways for Viego to stay alive, albeit in different ways. These defensive options are key to getting multiple ultimate uses off in team fights and staying alive to output damage.
But if you're snowballing very hard with multiple kills, choosing to pick up raw damage can be effective, not to mention straight-up fun. The Collector is a fantastic option for Viego when you have a massive lead, helping you kill enemies even more quickly. But this is quite risky and defensive options are usually ideal.
To finish off the build, pick up some situational items like Chempunk Chainsword, Mercurial Scimitar and/or Lord Dominik's Regards. Similarly, deciding which boots to go is situational too. Berserker's Greaves, Mercury Treads and Plated Steelcaps are all viable options and should be considered depending on the opposing team composition.
