After putting on a clinical performance against the Atlanta FaZe in the Grand Final, Dallas Empire win the 2020 Call of Duty League Championships
Dallas Empire finished the regular season in 2nd place behind the Atlanta FaZe and had to defeat them twice in order to take the Championship victory. Here’s a recap of the best of nine match which unfortunately didn’t last any longer than a usual series. The series also amassed over 330,000 concurrent viewers making it the most viewed Call of Duty event ever. To add to the accolades, Anthony “Shotzzy” Cuevas-Castro became the first Multi-FPS World Champion winning championships in both Halo and now Call of Duty. Ian “Crimsix” Porter becomes a three-time World Champion along with James “Clayster” Eubanks who also goes back-to-back.
Map 1 (Dallas 250-173)
Dallas Empire started the series 1-0 up due to coming through the Winners Bracket. They extended this lead straight away with a 250-173 Azhir Cave victory, only their third of the season. Cuyler “Huke” Garland dropped a massive 40 kills to set the pace of the series as he continues to be one of the most underrated players in Call of Duty esports.
Map 2 (Dallas 6-3)
The dominance continued as Dallas took a 3-0 series lead following a quick 6-3 Search and Destroy. Indervir “iLLeY” Dhaliwal showed off a new sniper spot to watch over the bomb winning a crucial round for the team to put them up.
Map 3 (Dallas 158-152)
The Domination was close, and it was looking like Atlanta FaZe would get their first map on the board for a long time in the game. However, Dallas pulled off a big comeback from 28 points down in the second half starting on the unfavoured side to win map 3 158-152 and take a 4-0 series lead. This meant that they were 1 map away from a quick 5-0 sweep.
Map 4 (Atlanta 250-211)
While they lost the series, Atlanta FaZe was not going down without a fight and they proved this in map 4. While the score was close for large parts of the game, Atlanta FaZe pulled through with the help of Tyler “aBeZy” Pharris who dropped 40 kills to bring his team over the line. It seemed impossible, and in the end it proved to be, but FaZe will have had thoughts about pulling off the greeted comeback in Call of Duty history at this point.
Map 5 (Dallas 6-4)
FaZe's success was short-lived as the Dallas Empire replied quickly with a 6-4 victory in map 5 to win the series 5-1 and become the 2020 Call of Duty League Champions. Crimsix was the major player in this map dropping multiple multi-kill rounds and really taking over when Dallas needed him.
Dallas Empire wins $1.5 million, a CDL Throne, a ring for each player and custom Jordan 6’s for each player. The 2020 Call of Duty League season is now over with only the All-Star weekend left to play. However, we see the Multiplayer reveal for Black Ops Cold War on September 9th with casters Clint “Maven” Evans and Joe “Merk” Deluca both participating in this reveal. With rumors of competitive play returning to 4v4 next season, we could see a major shakeup in year 2 of the CDL, but whatever happens, we’ll be sure to cover it here on ESTNN.
