Dota 2: Epic Esports And WePlay! Will Host OMEGA League

Here is everything we know so far about the newest Dota 2 league.

August is going to be a fun month for Dota 2. Even though we won’t be able to watch TI 10, there are plenty of interesting tournaments we'll be able to watch. One of which is the OMEGA League. Some of the best European and CIS teams will battle for a prize pool of $600K USD. The league is organized by WePlay! and Epic Esports and by the looks of it, it's going to be one of the hottest things this summer.

What do we know about OMEGA League?

The OMEGA League will start on the July 20 and will continue until September 6. Apart from Europe and CIS, the event will also include both a North American and a South American division. The total amount of teams taking part in this event is 42, which means that we will see all of the big names.

“OMEGA League is a unique product. We are extremely thankful to the teams and our partners at WePlay! for working together on the vision of what an Online event can and should be". said Mark Averbukh from Epic Esports. "We hope that this event will set the benchmark in the level of production and provide the fans many hours of premium content”.

Divisions

One of the interesting things about this league is the size of the prize pools. The EU and CIS division will have a total prize pool of $550,000. On top of that, these two teams will be divided into two divisions Immortal and Divine. The first one will have 12 teams in the group stage, including Evil Geniuses, a team that’s usually found in NA.

Here's the names of the invited teams from the CIS and EU regions:

  • OG
  • Alliance
  • Team Liquid
  • Team Secret
  • Evil Geniuses
  • Team Nigma
  • Virtus.Pro
  • FlyToMoon
  • Natus Vincere
  • Ninjas in Pyjamas

In addition to the directly-invited ones, we will also see two teams from the closed qualifiers. One of the biggest names there is HellRaisers, but they'll have plenty of competition:

  • HellRaisers
  • B8
  • Vikin.gg
  • Team Empire
  • Team Unique
  • CyberLegacy

As for the NA and SA divisions, the total prize pool there will be $40,000. Despite that, we will also have two brackets here Divine and Ancient. There will be 10 teams that will start in the first bracket and eight in the second one.
